Yahoo! Mail Announces Encrypted E-Mail Delivery Option

November 29, 2000

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Nov. 29, 2000—Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO), a leading global communications, commerce and media company, today launched a new encrypted e-mail delivery feature for Yahoo!(R) Mail (, one of the Internet's largest and most popular free e-mail services. The new "Send via" feature offers Yahoo! Mail users the option of sending their e-mail messages through ZixIt Corporation's (Nasdaq:ZIXI) SecureDelivery(TM) service.

When selected, the new feature encrypts a sender's e-mail message and attachments. The recipient of the e-mail is then sent a separate notification alerting them that they have received an encrypted message. The notification e-mail contains a Web address that links to, a wholly owned subsidiary of ZixIt, where the recipient can view the encrypted message. To read the message the recipient must enter a secure pass phrase that allows them to access a Web page secured by the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security standard. This provides an enhanced security environment for the recipient to access the e-mail message. This new free service is available to anyone with an e-mail address.

"The new 'Send via' feature is our latest addition to Yahoo! Mail and offers our millions of users the option of encryption-based security for their messages," said Lisa Pollock, senior producer, Yahoo! Communications Services Group. "We're providing an easy-to-use solution for those people who want the added security and safety that message encryption offers."
