DMA Attacks EU Report on "Spam" Emails

February 8, 2001

LONDON (Campaign) - The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has attacked a European Commission report on 'spam' emails that recommends that all email communications should be opt-in.

The DMA supports the current situation where consumers have to state that they do not want emails to stop receiving them. The EC report aims to remove confusion and create a level playing field across Europe.

Jodie Sangster, legal and public affairs at the DMA, said: "The main thing to remember is that the current opt-out approach maintains a good balance between business and consumers."
