eSoft Fights Junk E-Mail with New SpamFilter SoftPak;

April 2, 2001

BROOMFIELD, Colo., April 2 /PRNewswire/ — eSoft Inc. (Nasdaq: ESFT), a leading provider of Internet security appliances for small to medium enterprises (SMEs), today announced a new SoftPak for the InstaGate EX and EX2 line of Internet security appliances. SpamFilter, available immediately for download via eSoft's patent-pending SoftPak Director(TM), will filter unsolicited commercial e-mail (UCE).

"eSoft continually searches for ways to enhance our existing technology to help customers run efficient and secure businesses," said Dave Aylesworth, product manager for the InstaGate EX and EX2 product line. "Our customers have increasingly requested a solution which will assist them in fighting unwanted e-mail. Our introduction of SpamFilter allows businesses to save time and money by identifying and defending their systems against known spammers and junk e-mail."

According to online researcher eMarketer, spam is estimated to account for 10 percent of all e-mail in the United States. This means that by 2003, approximately 75.6 billion e-mail messages will be unsolicited. SpamFilter can help reduce the amount of UCE that businesses experience by integrating the technologies of organizations such as the Mail Abuse Prevention System (MAPS) and Open-Relay Behaviour Modification System (ORBS), which are dedicated to stopping abusive e-mail practices.

SpamFilter compares incoming e-mail against the MAPS and ORBS databases to identify known spammers. This allows customers to filter, reject and redirect junk e-mail to another mailbox, or tag and deliver it to the intended recipient for individual filtering.

In addition, businesses can use SpamFilter to create customized lists of addresses and domain names to block or reject unsolicited e-mail as well as define trusted addresses and domains to assure important, business-oriented e- mail messages arrive at their servers uninterrupted.

Through eSoft's innovative SoftPak Director, SpamFilter is currently available and can be downloaded with a single touch of a button. SpamFilter is one of the several SoftPaks available from eSoft. Other SoftPaks include anti- virus protection, web filtering and firewall policy manager.
