ThinAirApps Lands Wireless E-mail Deal with OmniSky

April 13, 2001

New York-based software start-up ThinAirApps Inc. has inked a high-profile deal to power wireless e-mails for OmniSky Corp.

The Palo Alto, CA-based OmniSky, which sells wireless e-mail and Internet services for mobile devices, is teaming with ThinAirApps to launch a new service this summer to allow customers to integrate separate e-mail accounts into a single interface.

OmniSky said the new service would provide secure wireless access to corporate e-mail systems including Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, Novell GroupWise, POP3 and IMAP4 compatible mail systems.

"By using ThinAir technology, OmniSky subscribers will be able to securely retrieve critical data straight from their behind-the-firewall corporate e-mail accounts within the easy-to-use OmniSky interface," the company said.

It said the service would provide secure and direct access to their company e-mail without having to manage multiple e-mail accounts or navigating through a new interface.

The service would work on PDAs and mobile devices like the Handspring Visor Platinum and Visor Prism, the Palm V and Palm Vx, HP Jornada 540 Series Pocket PC and Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC.

ThinAirApps, which is headquartered in Manhattan, builds wireless information access software for corporate clients. The two-year-old private firm is backed by Safeguard Scientifics.
