Critical Path's Hosted Email Service is Selected by International Law Firm; Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer's Exposure to Email Viruses Reduced By Critical Path's Service

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2001--Critical Path, Inc. (Nasdaq:CPTH), a global leader in communication technology and complete messaging solutions for wireless and wireline carriers, service providers and corporations, today announced it is providing international business law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer with a hosted email service that protects employees from unsolicited junk email and email-borne viruses.
Critical Path's hosted email service is part of a Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer initiative to separate personal and corporate email to protect the firm against security breaches and any legal complications brought about by personal messages. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer piloted the service for two months, and then selected Critical Path's hosted email service in the second quarter of 2001, in order to provide a secure and cost effective option for employees in the UK. Critical Path's success in stopping spam and viruses, along with the ease of implementation, has resulted in the service now being offered to over 2,000 employees across the law firm's 29 worldwide offices. Through Critical Path's service, employees receive a personal email account that they can access from anywhere via a Web browser or through Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer's Intranet.
"Critical Path's email service is an important part of our security initiative and enables us to assure that employees have reliable email that is protected from both viruses and spam," said David Enders, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer's Communications manager. "Rather than limit all personal communication we selected Critical Path to provide personal accounts for our employees because of its ability to provide an enterprise wide solution that reduces our exposure to security threats while at the same time providing a valuable service to our employees."
"Corporate email accounts are being buried in spam and viruses, which interferes with the recipients' productivity and strains corporate IT departments," said David Hayden, Critical Path's founder and executive chairman. "Critical Path hosted email solution provides both the safe and accurate delivery of legitimate email and the security necessary for mission critical information exchange."
