Workers at office where anthrax was found got 'cryptic' e-mail
October 9, 2001
Boca Raton, Florida-AP A reporter says workers at a Florida tabloid newspaper office where anthrax was detected received a "cryptic" e-mail from a summer intern.
The National Enquirer's Bennett Bolton says a portion of the e-mail sent in late August or early September read "I left you a surprise for you to remember me by. Ha ha, just kidding."
The F-B-I hasn't commented on the e-mail. But published reports say the former intern is a student at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
A school spokesman says the message seems "completely benign."
A worker for The Sun tabloid died after apparently inhaling the bacteria. It was since detected in the nose of another employee.
The government suspects foul play.
