Safeonline Offering E-mail Insurance for Small Businesses

October 18, 2001

Safeonline LLC, a manufacturer of digital risk insurance products, yesterday introduced SafeEmail, a product that can protect small- and medium-size businesses from the financial risks of using e-mail for business communications.

SafeEmail, which the company said is the first insurance product dedicated solely to protecting businesses that use e-mail, offers insurance against third-party claims from the inadvertent transmission of a virus; defamation of a company or individual by e-mail; violation of privacy via e-mail; and the unlawful use of information held in electronic form.

"Businesses are liable for every e-mail their employees send, presenting a potential risk no matter how many employees are e-mail users," said Harry Croydon, Safeonline's CEO. "SafeEmail creates a trusted environment for e-mail communication and offers real peace of mind to employers that their assets will be protected if a third party makes a claim."

The company, based in Okemos, MI., said premiums are based on the number of employees with e-mail access. Annual premiums for SafeEmail start at $498 for up to five e-mail users. Insurance coverage ranges from $100,000 to $1 million.
