Constituents asked to use e-mail, faxes

October 28, 2001

Anthrax scares have prompted at least one Texas lawmaker to ask constituents to communicate by e-mail or fax, rather than by mail.

U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Ennis, said letters sent to his and other U.S. representatives in Washington between Oct. 12 and Oct. 24 may have been destroyed or misdirected because of tests for anthrax.

So he's asking anyone who sent letters during that period to e-mail or fax their messages. He can be reached through his Web page at www.house.gov/barton.

His Washington office fax number is (202) 225-3052, and his district office fax is (817) 548-7029.
