Southeast Tech Wire Launches Daily Email Newsletter
April 8, 2002
Southeast Tech Wire launched a free email newsletter on Monday that summarizes the top technology, venture capital, and Internet stories in North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.
Southeast Tech Wire is part of the southern expansion of CapWire Inc., which publishes Potomac Tech Wire -- an email newsletter that is considered a "must read" daily briefing in the Washington DC area with over 30,000 subscribers. Last year, CapWire Inc. launched New England Tech Wire, currently with 10,000 subscribers, which has quickly become one of the top three sources of technology news in New England.
"With the Southeast's technology sector continuing to grow and gain national importance, technology executives need a thoughtful daily briefing of the region's top news stories," said Paul Sherman, publisher of Southeast Tech Wire. "Southeast Tech Wire will bring the Southeast's technology stories into one source."
Southeast Tech Wire focuses on the business side of technology -- with particular attention to venture capital, start-ups, mergers, acquisitions and technology partnerships.

The law firm of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice will write a weekly feature in Southeast Tech Wire about high technology legal issues. The feature will be written by attorneys from the firm's nine offices located in North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington DC.
Womble Carlyle partner and former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt, who was instrumental in creating the state's Research Triangle Park technology community, commented, "I'm pleased that the firm will be a regular contributor to Southeast Tech Wire. The newsletter will serve as a valuable resource for the region's thriving technology sector and our technology and commerce lawyers can add substantially to that value with thought-provoking articles about pressing legal issues."
Southeast Tech Wire is written by experienced financial journalists; Sherman, the publisher, is a native of Austin, Texas who worked for The New York Times and earned an MBA from The Wharton School. Ray Bolger, an editor of Southeast Tech Wire who worked for Atlanta-based LocalBusiness.com for two years, has significant experience in financial journalism, including various articles for Digital South magazine.
Rich Scherr, a writer for Southeast Tech Wire, worked for LocalBusiness.com and is a frequent writer for The Washington Post and other national newspapers.
"The Southeast has several of the strongest tech hubs in the country -- Atlanta, Research Triangle Park, Charlotte and Florida. These hubs are unique and have their own community, but they are also intertwined," said Sherman. "Southeast Tech Wire will serve as another force that brings these hubs closer together."
