Terra Lycos unveils paid e-mail program

May 14, 2002

The company, created by Terra Network's purchase of search engine Lycos in 2000, will charge $19.95 per year for its Lycos Mail Plus and also offer access to e-mail from other applications including Microsoft Outlook and Eudora.

"Our first offering in subscription e-mail services builds upon Terra Lycos' strategy to let our customers choose the level of service that's right for their need," said Michael Coddington, senior director of access and communications at Terra Lycos.

Last week, a senior executive said the company would consider entering the Internet access business in the United States with a partner and may also sell non-core U.S. assets.

Like many other Internet companies, Terra Lycos has been struggling against an advertising slump, the worst seen since World War II.
