U.K. Warns Of Fake Jobs Over The Internet

August 17, 2007

The British Embassy in the Philippines on Thursday warned Filipino job seekers of fake job offers through the internet that offers a high salary, good benefits, free travel and housing in Britain.

In a statement, the British embassy said, "Some scams offering U.K. employment have proliferated on the Internet recently. These can exploit unwitting and often desperate applicants."

"Often, the starting point of this type of operation is the receipt of an unsolicited electronic mail (email) offering work in the UK while other offers are sent directly to job seekers who post their resumés on job sites," it added.

The advisory said fake job offerings could be distinguished by the use of free e-mail address, such as Yahoo, Hotmail, and MSN. It warns the job offers may look genuine but searching the internet for the recruiting company would fail to bring any results.
